Wireless Network

Do you remember screaming at you parents or a sibling for picking up the phone and your internet being disconnected because it was a dial-up connection that you had? Well, I definitely remember waiting for my mom to get off the phone just so I could use the internet. Even though that memory will always bring a smile to my face, I would rather have it stay as a memory and not have to worry about choosing if I want to use the phone or if I want the internet.

Our technology has evolved so much and it keeps on improving day by day for our convenience and our comfort. When we see the signals of WiFi at a restaurant or a shopping mall, our hearts do a little happy dance. You get to roam around without distressing about losing connection. From a business point of view, this is one of the best things ever since their employees can be more productive and move place to place and still manage to get their work done. We can share files without needing a flash drive or saving them to a disk. Printing tasks can now be done without having to get up from your seat.

Here are some items that we would have never thought would require WiFi a decade ago:

  • Refrigerator
  • Oven
  •  Baby Monitors
  • Windows
  • Garage doors
  • Cars
  • Thermostats
How many items can you find around you that are currently using wireless network?

Social Networking

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and many others have all become a part of our daily lives. We have become so accustomed to social networking that from the moment when we wake up, to what we eat and drink and till the very moment we sleep, we are either taking pictures or updating the world about what we do. It is a way we chose to interact and collaborate with others around us and even around the world. If used effectively, social networking can actually help you promote your skills and advertise your talents. It is a chance for you to meet new people and a chance for others to get a glimpse of your life that you chose to share.

Because social networking gives you the opportunity to connect with the world, this opens new windows for you to find job opportunities, find romance, getting assistance with anything, and receiving support from someone who may be in the similar position as yourself. You get to pick and choose individuals that share mutual interests with you and can even build a network around these commonalities. And because this is all happening over the computer, you do not need to worry about physically having to meet people that may reside in different areas of the world.

Many social networking sites now incorporate instant messaging. This is very beneficial to those that want to have "real-time" together and be able to talk via chat. You actually save money by not having to make expensive phone calls anymore and are able to talk discreetly with a person in a room full of others. Just remember to be safe and careful while talking to others or using any form of social network and most importantly be RESPECTFUL of others!

Intellectual Games

Computers are not only just for shopping or banking or entertainment but, very importantly they give you the opportunity to enhance your intellectual skills. It is widely mistaken that games children play on computers are violent or inappropriate but that is not always the case. There are a variety of games that help our brain to stay sharp and healthy.

Certain brain games help our mind to break out of your normal routine. It encourages the brain to think outside of the box and take on new challenges that boost the brain. Games like word puzzles or crosswords not only challenge the brain but engage it as well. Exercising the brain is healthy, fun and relaxing.

Here are some advantages of playing "brain games" online:

  • better memory
  • faster thinking
  • quicker reactions
  • sharper listening
  • sharper vision
For children playing intellectual games not only boosts their memory but also, it can enhance their cognitive development. It aids them to reason logic and understand it better. Their brain get a workout it needs.

Children and adults should play intellectual games more often and really just let their minds going and thinking. Seeing things in another perspective refreshes your brain.
Here is a great site that you can enjoy challenging your brain in a good way and for free!

Shopping!

Let's be honest, who does not like shopping? I admit, that not all of us do like the crowds, or waiting in line, or even having to search for an item. That is why online shopping was created, to make a persons life efficient and convenient. You are able to purchase anything from a household item, to order food and groceries for yourself. Ever need to purchase a product that might be embarrassing to buy in person, well then online shopping is the solution for you.

Along with discreetly shopping online, there are many perks to it and one of the best ones I can think of is saving! You are able to find a variety of great deals and even compare them just so you can benefit from this. Before purchasing the product, you are able to read the reviews about it from actual customers and then take your decision whether you would like to purchase it or not. With online shopping, there is no need to get dressed or physically having to go outside. If you do not drive, then it really is an advantage for you.

Don't you just dislike hearing "sorry, that's all we have". Well when online shopping you will realize that there is a vast variety of items to consider from, you do not have to stick with just what is available. You have the power to choose from multiple items that is to your satisfaction. Not only that, but you tend to buy what you need. You will not be lured by sales representatives into buying something that is not needed or is out of your budget.

Online Banking

Now here is an invention that definitely has saved me my time and trips to the bank, online banking! This is basically a virtual bank that allows you to make your financial transactions from anywhere and at any point of time. This is not just efficient but also very secure.

Not only are you saving your time with online banking, you are also able to avoid the huge lines at the bank. You do not need to revolve your schedule around the time of your bank and can do your transactions from your bed. Furthermore, you are able to view your balance at any time and don't need to wait for your bank statements. This actually is very helpful for when you are making a purchase and are not sure whether all the funds are present in your account.

In addition to all the online banking, you can actually take it a step further and deposit your cheques online from your phone. Here are the steps:

  1. Download the app on your phone
  2. Sign the cheque with you name and write your account number
  3. Take a picture of the front and back
  4. Hit "deposit"
Here is a video by CIBC showing their eDeposit:

We live in an era where technology has a vast significance in our life, almost everything we do from shopping online, to paying a bill, or even checking our UPS package, all requires the use of a computer or a hand held device. Computers play a very significant role in our life and my blogs will show the different ways how computers can help you.

I am going to start off by sharing how computers can help you search for almost anything possible. Whether you have to search for information about your essay or search how to tie a tie, your life will become a little stressful. One of the most commonly used search engine is Google. You can type in ideas, sentences or words and Google will show a million different links.

So, not only is the computer an excellent source for searching for materials for school or basic knowledge, moreover, it is a place where you get the chance to learn about yourself! You get a chance to discover what really interests you or what could potentially even motivate you and simply encourage self-awareness. It is a place where lots of people even find true love and/or friendships.
